FAQ

Do I need to fill out any paperwork to climb?

SBRG requires that every participant fill out a waiver during their first visit to the facility. However, once you’ve filled out SBRG’s waiver we’ll keep it on fill and you shouldn’t have to fill out another one.

How old do you have to be to climb?

SBRG doesn’t not have a specific age requirement, rather a weight requirement. We require climbers to weigh at least 35 lbs. so our high friction top rope system will bring the climber back to the ground. That means they can climb up the wall, but if they don’t weigh enough it would be hard for them to come down.

How can I use the gym if I have no climbing experience?

The best option for first time climbers of any age is to take advantage of SBRG’s “On the Rocks” program. “On the Rocks” provides the new climber with 4 belays from one of SBRG’s instructors, all the climbing gear they’ll need, and a facility orientation. SBRG’s facility orientation will explain how new climbers can take advantage of the bouldering area and the auto belays.

Where can I park for SBRG?

SBRG shares a parking lot with REI on the corner of Anacapa and Gutierrez Sts. Here’s a link to a map.

Who can fill out a minor’s waiver?

Parents should know that SBRG requires a waiver for every child and only Parents or Legal Guardians can sign a minors waiver. If you’re sending your child to SBRG with a nanny, a babysitter, or with Grandma and Grandpa, please fill out our waiver online prior to your minors visit.

How can my children use the gym?

The best option for first time climbers of any age is to take advantage of SBRG’s “On the Rocks” program. “On the Rocks” provides the new climber with 4 belays from one of SBRG’s instructors, all the climbing gear they’ll need, and a facility orientation. SBRG’s facility orientation will explain how youth climbers can take advantage of the bouldering area and the auto belays. We do ask that parents participate in their children’s climbing experience by monitoring their use of the bouldering area and auto belays.

Can I belay in SBRG?

SBRG does require anyone who wants to use the top rope systems or lead climbing terrain demonstrate proper safety techniques. Both the top rope and leading climbing safety checks are free and take only a few minutes.
